The Best Food
Written For Northern Gardeners Almanac by Melanie J Watts
Lately, my favourite lunch has been sautéed greens, (I pick a bowl full from my garden) with an egg or two stirred into the pan, and maybe a little hot sauce, on the side, for extra flavour.
This year I’m growing 3 varieties of kale, swiss chard, beets for their greens as well as their roots, collards and mustard.
I tend not to listen to popular media so I’m a bit out of the loop when it comes to knowing about the much hyped benefits of Kale. This article charts the percentages of nutrients available in different types of greens. It reinforces what my mother told me, that eating some of everything is the best way to get all my nutrients.
Talking about food you really should listen to my new favourite podcast, The Food Programme It’s a BBC production that I heard about from a twitter friend. The show is an eclectic mix about growing food, processing food and ethnic food. There are interviews with food writers, in depth discussions of specific foods and more. I’m catching up by listening to all the back episodes.
