Seedy Saturday

primroses

In Canada Seedy Saturdays are the best places to meet and network with anyone in your community who is interested in local food production.

Yesterday at Exploration Place, here in Prince George, there were members of the bee keepers association and the Prince George, Good Food Box, supported by local market gardeners. This page has information about the Good Food Box program in BC and a list of contacts in BC communities.

The Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) had a large bin of worms and more information than you would ever want to know about composting.

The David Douglas Horticultural Society and Master Gardeners were there to answer any of your gardening questions.

You could buy vegetable seeds, several varieties of seed potatoes and garlic.

There were free lectures on Pruning, Xeriscaping and other gardening topics.

Seedy Saturdays are running in Communities all spring until April. There is a list of Seedy Saturdays across Canada on the Seeds of Diversity page here. A complete list of Seedy Saturdays in British Columbia is here The information in that link is old but the email addresses and phone numbers should still work.

Did you attend a Seedy Saturday in your Community? Tell me about it.

  1. I miss Seedy Saturdays, I used to attend at Van Dusen in Vancouver. I liked the exchanges best. Dropping off your own seed and taking what others had left. So many amazing finds to be discovered. Sadly there's no Seedy Saturday in PEI that I'm aware of. I would have to travel to Halifax to attend (4 hours away). I was just in Halifax a couple weeks ago so not ready to go back just yet. Perhaps another year.
